HURON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVED 2ND READING FOR MASK MANDATE

The Huron School District Board of Education met in their regular meeting Monday night at the Huron High School auditorium.  They held a second public forum concerning the proposal to start the school year mandating a mask usage policy.  There were three threshold levels to discuss and Superintendent Terry Nebelsick talked about the differences between those thresholds.

The choice to start children in the school or at home for the year is still up to the parents.  Nebelsick discussed the two options.

After a lengthy discussion with several community members voicing their concerns.  The vote was unanimous to start the year in the yellow threshold which is the middle range and that will require facial coverings.  While there are no guidelines in place for when the district can move to the green level.  Nebelsick said he will convey the question to the Beadle County Unified Covid-19 Task Force to try and determine that point.  The Huron School district will begin their year on August 24th.
