PIERRE, SD – A former Wolsey pastor sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife has died. Officials say 66-year-old William Guthrie died Saturday at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. Prison officials did not immediately release details about the inmate’s death.
Guthrie was sentenced in 2000 to life in prison without parole for a murder conviction. He was convicted by a jury in the May 1999 death of his wife of 30 years, Sharon Guthrie. She drowned in a bathtub at the couple’s home after an overdose of sleeping pills. Her husband was accused of putting the prescription pills in her chocolate milk.
