City to Consider Variance Request Tonight

The Huron City Commission will meet in regular session tonight beginning at 5:30.

The commission will convene as the board of adjustment to consider a variance request by Kirk & Heather Dietz at 217 7th Street SE. They are requesting to construct an addition on the north side of the smaller garage, which will be 114 square feet over code. Code states all structures on the lot including accessory buildings shall not exceed 30% of the lot area in an area zoned one family, two-family and townhouse residential district.

The city will consider a request by the Huron Veterans Council and the Elks Lodge to make improvements to the Beadle County Veterans Memorial. The Veterans Council wants to add landscaping to the site in the form of two trees. The trees would be located behind the memorial wall. The Elks Lodge wants to add a metal dropbox to the north side of the site where members of the community can deposit used and worn US flags. East River Nursery will provide and install the trees at no cost to the city.
