LifeSource Recognizes HRMC as Hospital Partner of the Year

Huron Regional Medical Center was recognized as “Hospital Partner of the Year” for helping a family honor their loved one’s wishes to donate their organs.

HRMC was honored at an awards luncheon during the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) Fall Convention in September in Sioux Falls.

Amy Goergen, RN, director of inpatient services and Pam Shoultz, RN, director of surgery were on-hand to accept the award on behalf of the hospital.

According to LifeSource:

“In August of 2018, Huron Regional Medical Center facilitated its first organ donor recovery since 1997. Huron Regional Medical Center’s mission statement says that they will ‘work together with each individual and organization in the region to promote and improve community health,’ and they did just that by answering a family’s request for organ donation. The care and support HRMC showed to the family of that organ donor was the reason two lives were saved. The systems, education and advocacy required to ensure hospital teams know what to do to support donation have to be especially strong at hospitals where donation opportunities are rare. HRMC prioritized such systems and advocacy over the past decade, and their teams were ready in August of last year.”

HRMC staff gathered this week in the intensive care unit, to share the honor and recognize that supporting organ donors is a team effort.
