No Vaping Sensors in Huron School District…..Yet

The Mitchell and Dell Rapids school districts have been in the news recently for the use of vaping sensors in bathrooms. These sensors can detect when students are vaping on school property. Huron superintendent Terry Nebelsick says vaping sensors are not currently being used in the Huron School District.

Nebelsick says the sensor is not a camera but rather a detector that can sense the presence of vaping chemicals.

In terms of the disciplinary action the school district takes when a student is caught vaping on school property Nebelsick says it is in the same category as alcohol use or cigarettes.

Nebelsick says the uptick in vaping related offenses on school property follows the growing popularity of vaping.
