The South Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors last week approved a new athletic co-op with Doland and Iroquois High Schools to begin this Fall. Doland had been in a co-op with Redfield the past several years, but decided to look at different options last spring.
Iroquois Superintendant and Athletic Director Mike Ruth says discussions began at the end of last school year.
Ruth says the new co-op is committed to five fall and winter sports, with more decisions to come.
Travel will be an issue as the schools are 48 miles apart, but Ruth says most activities will be based in Iroquois this year.
The football team will play a JV schedule for the next two years. The new co-op will be known as the Iroquois/Doland Chiefs, and they will compete in the 281 conference.
