A Huron farmer has won a national contest which honors corn farmers’ commitment to their communities.
Scott Slepikas was one of 10 finalists in the annual Power to Do More contest from the corn herbicides of Corteva. As the grand prize winner, Slepikas receives $10,000 for a local nonprofit. Two other farmers win second-place prizes of $5,000 each for their selected nonprofit organizations. Slepikas received the most votes at PowerToDoMore.com. Voting was open to the public.
Slepikas nominated the Center for Independence of Huron for the $10,000 donation.
Slepikas said the nonprofit organization serves people with special needs, including his son, and the organization relies on “many donations to provide these special people with many extras to make their lives easier and better.”
In his entry, Slepikas uploaded a photo showing the finish of a “great crop harvest” on his family farm.
This is the third year of The Power to Do More contest.
