Last night, the Huron Board of Education heard a report from business manager Kelly Christopherson on student accident insurance.
Christopherson attended the South Dakota Associated School Board’s insurance meeting in March. He says student accident insurance is now available. There is a catastrophic and primary component.
Christopherson says the district already provides catastrophic student accident insurance for the entire student body.
He says what is new is the primary plan.
This would replace a plan that was meant to be funded by parents. Christopherson says over the years enrollment in that plan shrank to zero.
Christopherson says so far 96 students accidents have been reported to the business office this school year. The number of injuries related to athletics was even higher.
He says the goal is to make student accidents a zero cost to parents.
The board took no action last night.
