City Passes Mosquito Agreement

The Huron City Commission gave Park and Recreation Director LaRon Klock, leeway to help area towns with mosquito control issues. City Attorney Gerry Kaufman told the Commission Klock has been approached by the cities of Cavour, Iroquois, Virgil, Yale and Alpena in Jerauld County for help with mosquito spraying. The resolution passed last night is similar to other resolutions giving city officials like the chief of police and finance officer the ability to enter agreements without being required to bring the request before the City Commission. The resolution was amended to include “governmental entities” meaning any area town city or township board could request help spaying for mosquitoes. That would open the door for possible mosquito spraying around Lake Byron. Such a request has not been made by the township board. The City of Huron has completed one round of mosquito spraying in Huron and has done special event spraying at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds
