FORT THOMPSON, SD – The federal bribery trial for Crow Creek Tribal Chairman Duane Big Eagle Sr. has been rescheduled from this week to August 1. Federal prosecutors asked to reschedule the trial because a key witness in the case is being treated for cancer. Contractor Archie Baumann of Fort Pierre allegedly bribed Big Eagle. Big Eagle has pleaded not guilty to bribery and conspiracy counts that could land him in prison for 30 years if he’s convicted. Several other tribal officials were convicted in the case. Baumann earlier was sentenced to a year and three months in prison, $2,000 in restitution and a $34,000 fine for his role.
