A high school student from Highmore is one of this year’s Hagen-Harvey Memorial Scholarship winners. Matilyn Kerr of Highmore joins six other Native American students from Lake Andes, Faith, Canton, Watertown, Tea and Fort Pierre, in receiving the scholarships. Scholarship winners must attend institutes of higher education in South Dakota to use the financial boost. The Scholarships range from one-thousand dollars for a single year to as much as six-thousand dollars over four years of incoming freshman. Hagen-Harvey Scholarships are awarded to recent high school graduates who are enrolled members of any American Indian tribe. Recipients are selected on the basis of grade-point average, ACT score, leadership potential and other indicators.
