A Flood Warning continues for the James River in Huron.
The river is projected to peak at 12.6 feet today. Minor flooding begins at 11 feet while major flooding starts 13 feet. After the river peaks at 12.6 feet it will then recede to 11-11.5 feet through March 28.
Beadle County Emergency Management director Taylor Jans says in town the water is rising at 3rd street near Riverside Park. However, neither his office nor the State Office of Emergency Management believes the water will go over the road.
Jans says the biggest concern is county and township roads that are underwater or muddy. He says some county roads that are unfit for travel have been barricaded off due to water going over the roads. You are urged not to drive past barricades. Jans says residents travel at their own risk on township roads.
The James River rose to over 20 feet in 2011, 19.7 feet in 2010 and a record high of 21.2 feet in 1997. At this time last year, the river was at 10.4 feet.
