The final day of testimony in the re-trial of former Highmore police chief Ken Huber is today. Defense attorneys expect to call at least two witnesses today and then rest their case. Today is the 12th day of the trial. Judge James Anderson told jurors last week he hopes to have the case in the jurors hands by Tuesday. 15 jurors have heard the testimony so far, however 12 jurors from the 15 will be chosen at random to hold deliberations. Huber is being tried on murder and manslaughter charges for the second time after the South Dakota Supreme Court overturned his conviction, saying Judge James Anderson should have allowed defense witnesses testify to the merits of the accidental discharge of a firearm by trained law enforcement officers. Two of those witnesses did get to testify last week, despite continued objections from prosecutors. Huber claims his police weapon discharged by mistake. The discharged round struck his wife Pam in the forehead, killing her days later in a Sioux Falls hospital.
