Ceremony in Pierre Honors South Dakota’s Fallen Heroes

A small, solemn crowed gathered around Capitol Lake in Pierre Monday to honor South Dakota’s Fallen Heroes with the laying of a wreath at the Flaming Fountain Veterans Memorial. The ceremony is a part of Wreaths Across America.

Major General Tim Reisch and Command Sergeant Major Jim Hoekman of the South Dakota National presented the wreath and set it in front of the memorial. The South Dakota Funeral Directors Association sponsors the ceremony. President Justin Nelson says the wreath’s meaning goes beyond honoring the sacrifice of soldiers who did not return home.

Reisch says wreaths are a tribute to brave men and women of the Nation’s armed forces.

Ceremonies for Wreaths Across America took place in all 50 states at more than 1400 veterans’ cemeteries and other locations including Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
