Huron Workers Not Affected By Premier Bankcard Cuts

Premier Bankcard announced Thursday it will close its credit card operation in Spearfish, eliminating 330 part-time and full-time jobs. Company officials say the closing is tied to changes in financial regulations that took effect in 2010, making it harder to issue credit cards.  The Spearfish operation will close July 23. About two-thirds of the workforce is full-time employees. Premier Bankcard has other credit card operations in Dakota Dunes, Huron, Sioux Falls and Watertown.  President and CEO Miles Beacom said there are no current plans for additional closings. The company said it will have approximately 1,600 employees statewide after the Spearfish closing, down from about 2,600 in late 2009.
