The Huron School District and Police Department issued a joint statement yesterday on an alleged graffiti threat at Huron High School.
Around October 1, graffiti written in pencil was observed by a student in a boys bathroom stall. The message was “school shooting October 31”. The next day the student returned and the message was gone. The student shared what he saw with other kids, and eventually a parent found out and notified school officials, who investigated but did not find anything.
Huron Superintendent of Schools Terry Nebelsick says yesterday’s public statement was to keep lines of communication open.
He gave a timeline concerning the incident.
After thorough inspection it is not believed to have been a valid threat, but Nebelsick says the investigation will continue.
School will be in session next Wednesday, October 31, with additional security in place. Anyone with questions can contact Huron Schools at 353-8550.
