HPV Documentary Showing Tonight

Community members, especially healthcare workers and middle and high school students and their families, are encouraged to attend a special showing of an HPV documentary, Monday, September 24, 5:45 p.m. at HRMC Legacy Plaza Auditorium.

Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic, which is narrated by Vanessa Williams and produced by Lumiere Media, reveals just how dangerous this virus can be, causing six different types of cancers in both men and women.

Lacy Eaton is a Beadle County Health Nurse. She there is a stigma surrounding the HPV vaccine due to the fact that is recommended for children at such a young age and the misconception that HPV can only be spread through sexual contact.

Although it is a documentary, Eaton says “Someone You Love” is emotional and riveting.

Eaton says the Huron health community hopes to schedule additional screenings of the film.

OB/GYN Dr. Elyse Brock and pediatrician Dr. Jesse Van Heukelom will answer questions after the movie presentation. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.

This public showing is made possible through a grant from the South Dakota Department of Health. For more information or to watch the trailer, visit www.hpvepidemic.com.
