“Huron Rising”, which was conceived as a listening session/workshop to determine where and how Huron Community Foundation funds could best be spent in the community, was held last week at the Campus Center.
An executive summary, based on those discussions, has identified some key areas of opportunity. The summary was presented last night by Dr. Bill Anderson, who facilitated “Huron Rising”.
Anderson says addressing housing and revitalizing the downtown area were two recurring themes.
Anderson says the topic of dilapidated housing kept coming to surface at “Huron Rising” due to the volume of the problem.
Anderson says changes proposed by the SDDOT create opportunities for downtown.
The report also encouraged the community to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit of Huron’s diverse population.
Some of the next steps suggested in the executive summary include putting together two task forces, one dealing with downtown and one focusing on the housing challenge and to have one project completed in each area by the end of 2020.
