A 15 member jury is in place as opening statements and testimony get underway today in the re-trial of former Highmore Police Chief Ken Huber. Jurors were informed by telephone Monday night that they made the panel. Originally, the final 15 jurors were to be called this morning with opening statements to start this afternoon. The South Dakota Supreme Court ruled in July of 2010 that a defense witness should have been allowed to testify on the accidental discharge of a firearm. Such testimony was barred by Judge James Anderson in Huber’s first trial. Huber was sentenced to life in prison for shooting his wife Pam in the forehead with a Glock handgun in October of 2007. That verdict was overturned by the High Court. The re-trial is being held at the Beadle County Courthouse in Huron.
