PIERRE, SD – Officials are starting to get ready for mosquitoes and West Nile virus in South Dakota. A workshop in Huron Thursday will offer information on mosquito control, a review of the 2010 West Nile season, and programs that are available to help towns and counties pay for mosquito control. Mosquitoes can transmit the West Nile virus to humans. Most people only suffer minor complications, but it can be fatal. Twenty-six people have died in South Dakota from the virus since it was first detected nine years ago. The state had 20 human cases last year and no deaths.
