HURON, S.D.— The South Dakota Farmers Union will host the second annual ‘Team up to Safety’ quiz bowl competition Monday, April 11, on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings. The competition will be held in the SDSU Student Union, room 260, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fourteen FFA chapters from across the state will be competing in the farm and ranch safety quiz bowl during the annual state FFA convention held on campus. Teams from Alcester-Hudson, McCook Central, Tri-Valley, Harrisburg, Viborg, Wolsey-Wessington, Clark, Brookings, Woonsocket, Bowdle, Parker, Centerville and Hoven will be competing in this year’s event. The FFA chapter from Hoven won the quiz bowl finals in 2010. The quiz bowl will be seven rounds, with two teams competing against each other in each round to answer questions related to safety, health and emergencies on the farm or ranch. The teams were given farm safety study guides prior to the competition. Teams will have to buzz in with their answers once the question is read. There will be points awarded for each correct answer and points taken off for incorrect answers. The top four scoring teams will have the chance to compete at the ‘Team up to Safety’ quiz bowl finals to be held during the annual DakotaFest Farm Show in Mitchell this August.
