Huron Announces Water Park Proposal

Huron Mayor Dave McGirr says the aquatic center will replace Huron’s aging municipal pool that is over 40 years old and past it’s recommended life span. Since Huron is one of the last larger cities in the state to take up an aquatic center project and McGirr says Huron needs something to compete for visitors from places like Brookings, Mitchell and Aberdeen. McGirr says officials have realized after years of trying that Huron will never become a traditional college town. McGirr says a significant portion of the three million dollars in community fundraising campaign has been collected so far to meet the 12-point-6 million dollar price tag. Variances and zoning issues related to the Central Park project will come before the City Commission on April 18th.
