Witte Pleads Not Guilty To Revoked License Charge

Wessington Springs School Superintendent Lance Witte has pleaded not guilty to driving on a revoked license. An arraignment was held March 24th at the Jerauld County Courthouse in Wessington Springs. Judge David Gienapp, who replaced Judge Jon Erickson, who recused himself from Witte’s case, also set June 10th as a date for a motions hearing. Witte was pulled over near Alpena, December 10th and arrested for driving while his license was revoked. His license was revoked as a part of sentencing conditions set after Witte pleaded guilty to drunk driving on November 23rd. Witte was on probation from the drunk driving sentencing at the time of the arrest and was ordered to be a law abiding citizen for 360 days. Witte was granted a work permit and told the Associated Press in January he believed his work permit paperwork was in order and the arrest was a misunderstanding.
