The city has approved an agreement under which it would sell a commercial lot and transfer ownership of the residential lots in Southtown to Greater Huron Development Corporation. Executive Director David McGirr says there is a lot of momentum in Southtown and GHDC wants to see that continue.
Greater Huron would pay $400,000 for lot 2B. McGirr says there is a buyer for that lot.
The multi-family and single family residential lots in Southtown would be transferred to Greater Huron, with the city retaining ownership until the lots are sold. The lots would then be incentivized for developers.
McGirr says this approach has worked well in Aberdeen for over a decade.
Contractor Todd Smith expressed concern over the agreement. He said he had hoped the city would hold another auction to sell the lots.
Mayor Paul Aylward says the agreement will help the city get closer to making back the money it spent on Southtown.
