Names Released in Hand County Fatal Crash

An 80-year-old Miller man has been identified as the person who died in a vehicle-pedestrian collision Thursday afternoon in Miller.

A 2007 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer was stopped at the south junction of Highway 45 and Highway 14 in Miller. It is a four-way stop. The semi had stopped and was preparing to turn left onto 14.

Donald Simpson, who was in a motorized wheelchair, entered the intersection crosswalk from the west. When the semi-truck driver began his left-hand turn, he struck the pedestrian, who later died of his injuries at the Miller hospital.

Jon Rowe, 55, of Wolsey was driving the semi. He was not injured.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
