A former Huron resident was killed this week in a deadly car accident along the California coast. The crash also claimed the lives of four other members of the woman’s family, including three children. Three other children are still missing.
Confirmed dead are Markis Hart, 19, and Jeremiah Hart and Abigail Hart, both 14, and their mothers, Jennifer Jean Hart, formerly of Huron, and Sarah Margaret Hart both 38. The women were married and had previously lived in West, Linn Oregon. The couple had six adopted children.
Authorities believe the couple’s three other children, Hannah Hart, 16, Devonte Hart, 15, and Sierra Hart, 12, were likely in the vehicle when it left the road and went over a cliff on a remote section of Highway 1. They have been unable to account for their whereabouts.
According to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, the crash happened late Monday afternoon. They were dispatched to the area after a motorist spotted the vehicle upside down on the shoreline below.
An investigation into the cause of the crash and a search for the three missing children continues.
