The school superintendent who pleaded guilty to a first-offence DUI in November is facing a possible probation violation for driving with a revoked license, 17 days later.. Court documents indicate Wessington Springs Superintendent Lance Witte was arrested December 10th, on 221st Street, 3 miles West of Alpena in Northern Jerauld County, by South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Peterson. Witte was transported to the Beadle County Jail where he was released on a personal recognizance bond. As part of the DUI sentence, Witte received 90 days of probation. 30 days of jail time was suspended upon Witte following five conditions, one of which is obeying all laws for 360 days. Witte was issued a work permit for driving. Witte told the Associated Press Friday morning that he thought he had complied with the requirements of the work driving permit and thought he was driving legally. He says he was returning from a meeting. An initial court appearance for the 40-year-old is set for Tuesday January 18th in Wessington Springs.
