Moore Says Marsy’s Law Changes Would Offer Clarification

This week the House State Affairs Committee approved changes to “Marsy’s Law”. The proposal was the result of an agreement reached with the group that campaigned to for the constitutional bill of rights for crime victims in South Dakota and other states.

Voters would be asked to make changes to the Marsy’s Law amendment including requiring victims to opt into many rights and explicitly allowing authorities to share information with the public to help solve crimes.

Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore says the changes clarify the law.

Moore says the proposal is a response to counties that have interpreted the law differently.

South Dakota would be the first state to make changes to Marsy’s Law.
