Resolution On Street Lights Amended To Include Service Roads

The Huron City Commission amended a resolution passed weeks back asking the Department of Transportation to add overhead street lighting to US Highway 14 from Westpark Avenue to Jersey Avenue and state Highway 37 from 15th to 18th street north of Huron. The State of South Dakota would cover approximately 80-percent of the cost of the project with the city responsible for the remaining 20-percent McGirr says the city has the STIP or State Transportation Improvement Projects funds to cover the extra lights but it may push some planned projects back…

Should the resurfacing of 21st street be delayed the city maybe forced to chip seal the road, which would buy the city a few years to allow the STIP funds which are comprised of gas tax moneys time to be replenished. The amended resolution adds mention of the street lights along the highway’s service roads.
