Wessington Springs School District Says Yes to School Bond

A few months after a $4.5 million school bond failed to pass, voters in the Wessington Springs school district have approved a smaller bond.

The $3.5 million bond will be used to cover improvements to the high school’s bathrooms, plumbing, electrical, flooring, HVAC, windows and also install an elevator.

A total of 525 “yes” votes were cast in Wessington Springs and Gann Valley Tuesday in favor of the bond compared to 324 “no” votes. With 61.84 % of the vote, the bond received the required super majority.

In November, 59% of voters approved the $4.5 million bond but it came short of the super majority of 60% needed to pass.
