Deputies Save Redfield Teen With Drug That Reverses Opioid Overdoses

Spink County Deputies saved the life of a 13-year-old Redfield juvenile with the use of Narcan on Saturday, January 13.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says equipping emergency responders and law enforcement personnel with Narcan provides an important tool to combat overdoses.

Naloxone, sold under the name Narcan, can reverse the effects of opioid overdose.

The Attorney General’s Office sponsored legislation in 2015 that would enable all first responders to carry naloxone.

Law enforcement agencies can request Narcan funding from the Attorney General’s drug control fund.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol has been awarded Narcan funding in the amount of $13,875.00.
