Better Business Bureau Offers Tips For Avoiding Scams When Donating

Tuesday was “Giving Tuesday”, a day designed to give to those in need in the wake of days like “Black Friday” and Cyber Monday. The Better Business Bureau and their Wise Giving Alliance is urging consumers who want to give this holiday season do their diligence first.

Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau in South Dakota says free accesses to charity reports are available at give-dot-org.

Schmidt says a check is the best way to make a donation.

Schmidt says when choosing to give watch out for similar names.

The B-B-B also suggests avoiding on-the-spot decisions from unfamiliar organizations and being wary of emotional appeals which may guilt you into giving to a cause you don’t support or to scammers.
