The office of South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs could be a busy one today. Five PM this evening is the deadline for groups to turn in signatures for ballot measures they’d like to see on the ballot.
Krebs says the signatures go through an extensive certification.
Krebs expects literally hundreds of thousands of signatures to arrive in her office.
The first set of petitions submitted is for an initiated amendment to the South Dakota Constitution to change campaign finance and lobbying laws along with establishing a government accountability board, and changing provisions for certain initiatives and referendums.
