Northwestern Energy Moving Toward “Smart Meter” Technology

Electric utilities around the world are adding smart grid technology to their systems, giving them more information and control.

Tom Glanzer, with Northwestern Energy, says they are moving in that direction too

Glanzer says they will be able to run more efficiently, and help consumers reduce their power usage

Glanzer says there will be some changes in how they operate too

Glanzer says expect to see some test versions of smart grid technology at different service locations over the next few years. Northwestern serves about seventy thousand electric customers, mostly along the James River valley in eastern South Dakota.
