City Approves Variances Requests For Church and DFCU

The city commission, acting as the board of adjustment, has given James River Church permission to purchase the YWCA administrative building at 17 5th Street which is located in a business district that is not zoned for church use.

The church has been renting the building for six years.

The building will be used for Sunday church services, smaller leadership meetings, prayer meetings, and church office business.

Although the YWCA building only has a handful of parking spaces that actually belong to the property, there are a sufficient amount of public parking spaces available in the area to meet the churches needs.

Pastors Jeff and Autumn Mann have indicated that the church may wish to expand the building in the future, which would require another variance request

Also last night, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union received approval to construct a free standing communications tower.

The height of the pole will be 60’ or less which will be taller than the trees in the neighborhood. The bank currently uses wireless communications, but the trees are causing communication issues.

DFCU wants to build the tower for their main branch at 1371 Dakota S which will then be able to communicate with the towers at the north and south sites.

The tower will be self-supporting with no guy wires. DFCU is also considering towers at their north bank location and at the new facility that will be built south of Coborn’s.
