Fatal Crashes:
At 8:54 p.m., Interstate 90, mile marker 32, seven miles east of Sturgis: A motorcycle was eastbound on Interstate 90 when the driver lost control, laying the motorcycle on its side. The driver, a 27-year-old male from Fort Wayne, IN, was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries.
Injury Crashes:
At 10:28 a.m., U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 39, five miles north of Deadwood: A motorcycle was northbound on U.S. Highway 85 when the driver failed to negotiate the curve. The motorcycle struck a delineator post as it entered the ditch. The male, 60, from Carrollton, GA, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet.
At 11:17 a.m., U.S. Highway 16/385, mile marker 27, one-half mile north of Custer: A motorcycle was southbound on U.S. Highway 16/385 when he quickly slowed down. The motorcycle was put on its side and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle. The male driver, 33 from Golden Valley, MN, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
At 12:45 p.m., Vanocker Canyon Road, mile marker 12, five miles from Sturgis: A motorcycle failed to negotiate a left hand turn and the motorcycle collided with a small tree. The 78-year-old driver from Cave Creek, AZ, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
At 12:50 p.m., U.S. Highway 385, mile marker 118, 10 miles south of Deadwood: A motorcycle traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 385 went off the roadway and hit a sign, throwing both occupants off the motorcycle. The male driver, 59, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The female passenger, 57, sustained life-threatening injuries. Both are from Kearney, NE and both were wearing helmets.
At 1:22 p.m., Antelope Creek Road, eight miles north of Box Elder: A 2006 Ford Escape was northbound when the driver lost control and the vehicle eventually went into the ditch. The 16-year-old female driver from Box Elder suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.
At 1:30 p.m., South Dakota Highway 87, mile marker 61, 12 miles east of Custer: A motorcycle was northbound on South Dakota Highway 87 when the driver lost control while traveling around a curve. The male driver, 60, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. The 59-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries. Both were from Saginaw, MI and neither was wearing a helmet.
At 4:23 p.m., South Dakota 34, mile marker 3, seven miles west of Belle Fourche: Two motorcycles were westbound on South Dakota Highway 34. The first motorcycle was attempting to make a U-turn at a slow rate of speed. The second vehicle attempted to swerve around the first motorcycle and the two motorcycles collided. Both drivers were thrown from their motorcycles. The first driver, a 52-year-old male from Springfield, MO, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The second driver, a 42-year-old male from Casa Grande, AZ, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
At 5:04 p.m., South Dakota Highway 79, mile marker 121, 20 miles north of Sturgis: A group of motorcycles were southbound on South Dakota Highway 79. The first motorcycle collided with a deer that was in the roadway and the motorcycle went into the ditch. The second motorcycle also collided with the deer, went into the ditch and collided with a barb wire fence. The male driver of the first motorcycle, 47, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The female passenger, 47, was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries. Both are from Kansas City, MO. The male driver of the second motorcycle, 56, had serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The female passenger, 46, was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries. Both are from Kansas City, MO.
At 4:35 p.m., South Dakota Highway 79, mile marker 119, entrance to Full Throttle Bar and Campground: One motorcycle was northbound and two other motorcycles were exiting the campground, failing to yield. All three motorcycles collided. The male driver of the first motorcycle received minor injuries. The other two motorcycle riders both received minor injuries.
At 4:44 p.m. South Dakota Highway 34, mile marker 38, Sturgis: Two motorcycles were westbound on South Dakota Highway 34 when the first motorcycle slowed down and was rear-ended by the second motorcycle. The first driver, a 48-year-old male from Crown Point, IN, was thrown from the motorcycle and received serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The second male driver, 36-years-old from Stanley, ND, was not injured.
