State Senator Troubled by Lack of Data in GEAR UP Hearings

The Government Operations and Audit Committee, or GOAC, met in Pierre on Monday and Tuesday to ask questions about the handling of funds for the GEAR UP program.  Attorney General Marty Jackley and State Education Secretary Melody Schopp answered questions from the committee.  Senator Stace Nelson of Fulton was one of those asking questions.

Nelson says measures need to be taken to prevent future mishandling of funds and oversight by the state.

He says the data, or lack thereof, is troubling.

Senator Nelson expects more state education officials to testify at future GOAC meetings.
