Jackley Warns of Pirated Websites

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning consumers about the growing problem of pirate websites. He says these websites are tempting sources of illegally distributed movies, music and other forms of entertainment

Jackley says it’s turned into a nationwide problem. He says a recent study found that 1 in 3 of these pirate websites exposed users to malware exploitable by criminals. Jackley says almost half of the malware was “drive-by”, in other words, delivered without a user even having to click on the link.

He says avoiding pirate websites is the most effective way to prevent problems. Other tips include making sure your anti-virus and anti-malware software is up to date. If the offer of free movies, music, or books appears to good to be true, Jackley says it probably is and you should pass on it.
