Thune Introduces Legislation That Changes Farm Bill’s Disaster Title

South Dakota Senator John Thune has introduced legislation that will make changes to the disaster title of the farm bill. He says the measure calls for quicker assistance for those eligible through the livestock forage and livestock indemnity programs.

He says his bill also allows livestock indemnity payments for those producers who have lost animals due to a disaster related disease.

Thune says his legislation also makes a correction to the Federal Land and Management Policy Act.

Thune says he’s also considering future legislation that would call for the allowance of early haying and grazing by July 15 as well as changes to improve the emergency conservation program to help with water, fencing and pasture needs.
