Daugaard Pleased With New Lakes Law

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard hasn’t had any complaints since the legislature enacted new legislation recently to reopen public access at nearly 30 lakes in South Dakota. He’s hoping people feel good about the legislation and that it’s a good compromise between landowners and sportsmen.  The Governor was quick to point out that the legislature will have to address the issue again though in the next session in January

The public access points at the non-meandered lakes in question were closed by the Game, Fish and Parks Department following a South Dakota Supreme Court ruling, but reopened again after the legislature passed the new law that contained an emergency clause granting access again.  The law does come with certain landowner protections.
