Athletic Directors Adjust to New Sweet Sixteen Format

South Dakota Athletic Directors are getting to work after the State High School Activities Association approved the sweet 16 postseason format for volleyball and basketball last week.

The sweet 16 eliminated districts and regions in AA, and regions in Class A and B, with class A school using the format this past school year.

Yankton Activities Director Ryun Mors told South Dakota Public Broadcasting that the new format is fair for everyone

Schedules now come into focus, with AA in particular wanting everyone on an even field, but Huron A-D Terry Rotert says that could take a year or two to iron out

Rotert says he has moved a few volleyball and basketball games back to the end of the schedule so there won’t be as much downtime between the end of the regular season and the sweet 16 games.
