Iowa Teen Killed in Accidental Shooting in Tripp County

A prairie dog hunter from Iowa was killed in an accidental shooting Saturday south of Presho.

According to Tripp County Sheriff Shawn Petitt, on Saturday morning just before 9:00am, officers responded to a call of a shooting in Northwest Tripp County, approximately 18 miles northwest of Witten.

Pettit says some prairie dog hunters from Iowa were hunting in a pasture when a 17 year old juvenile male, identified as Daryl Martin, was shot in the head and killed.

The investigation is being conducted by the South Dakota DCI, Game Fish and Parks, and the Tripp County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
