South Dakota releases its new state plan for education as required under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
South Dakota Department of Education Deputy Secretary Mary Staddick-Smith says the plan lays out how the state will operate under
the new law
She says it gave the state an opportunity to assess the system and look for flexibilities within the new federal law that would support state
priorities for education. Staddick-Smith says a lot of ESSA is about school accountability
States are also required to set goals
The release kicks off a 30-day comment period in which members of the public are invited to weigh in on the proposed plan.
You can see the entire plan at the state Department of Education website.
