Thompson Trial Delayed

The trial of Edwin Thompson has been delayed. At an informal status hearing Beadle County Deputy States Attorney Jeff Banks and Thompson’s attorney Ron Volesky made a joint motion to request the trial date be pushed back from March 28th to later in the year. States Attorney Mike Moore told Judge Jon Erickson, he expects the trial to last five days, with two days for jury selection, a day and a half of prosecution evidence and about a half day for the defense. Moore says the state has approximately 10 to 12 witnesses. No new trial date was announced but lawyers were considering late May to early June. No ruling was made on Volesky’s request for a second lawyer to help with the case.  Thompson is charged with killing Ryan Treadway in November of 2009.
