Federal aviation officials are investigating a small plane crash in rural Meade County that has killed the pilot.
Aviation officials say a Cessna 210 crashed just south and east of Opal, which is located in north-central Meade County.
Authorities report only one person onboard the plane — the pilot — and that person did not survive the crash.
The Civil Air Patrol says the plane was flying from Faith to Rapid City when it went missing. The plane was located around 3:00 a.m. Friday by searchers.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating and sending a team to the crash site.
The pilot’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
