SDSU Student Stabbed in Sunday Morning Incident

A man was stabbed in an early Sunday morning incident at South Dakota
State University.

According to a release from the university, at 4:45 Sunday morning, a
male student entered an unlocked room in Brown Hall occupied by a male
non-student identified as 19-year-old Lucky Mai.

A struggle broke out between the two and Mai stabbed the student.

University police were notified and responded. Both individuals were
taken to the Brookings Hospital. Mai was treated for minor injuries and
transported to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, where he was
charged with aggravated assault.

The victim suffered more serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance
to Sioux Falls where he underwent emergency surgery. The name of the
victim is not being released.

Mai remains in custody on a $75,000 cash-only bond. Mai’s current
address is not known. He’s originally from Rochester, Minnesota.

According to the release, the Division of Student Affairs actively
worked with students yesterday impacted by the incident and counseling
services are available, if needed.
