The Wessington Springs School District has address what has been deemed a quote “non-threatening but inappropriate comment” regarding bringing a weapon to the school last Wednesday. Superintendent Lance Witte, in an e-mail to parents says other students became aware of the comment and informed their parents who in turn notified school officials around 8:30 Friday morning. The comment was made on the school’s lunch bus. Witte says the situation has been investigated and dealt with. School officials met with middle and high school students Friday morning to address the issue expressing the importance of informing school staff immediately should a similar situation happen again. Witte says if staff knew about the comment soon, undue stress and anxiety in the community may have been averted. Those with questions about the situation are encouraged to contact the Wessington Springs School District.
