City Commission Discusses Campus Center Use

City CommissionChanges may be on the horizon for certain uses and activities that take place in the Campus Center in Huron. Harrington says one group wants to rent the building on consecutive weekends, to sell alcohol and hold dances. Harrington would like to see a Midnight curfew put on events held in the Campus Center. Police have been asked to make walk-throughs on event nights. Harrington say he’s concerned about the city’s investment….

Police Chief Denny Meyer told Commissioners hiring an off-duty police officer to act as security could add significant cost to renting a room, and Meyer couldn’t promise that an officer would be available. The Commission was looking to see if the rates and fees charged were adequate to deal with clean up, when people do not clean up after room use. Campus Center rates have not been changed or looked at since the building opened in 2013. The Commission took no action on anything discussed during their work session Monday night.
