A Letcher woman died Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Sanborn County.
The Highway Patrol says 83-year-old Shirley Jean Ruml was driving out a private driveway onto State Highway 37, seven miles northeast of Letcher, just after 5pm.
Ruml was crossing the northbound lane to turn south when her mini-van was struck on the driver’s side by a northbound pickup driven by 52-year-old Timothy Gerald Klaas, of Woonsocket.
Ruml died from her injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt. Klaas had minor injuries and was properly restrained in his vehicle.
