State Pork Producers Lean On Congress For Trade Deals

Help WantedUnited States business and industry groups are urging Congress to give the White House trade promotion or fast track authority to negotiate trade deals. South Dakota Pork Producers President Lester Moeller of Miller agrees and says if that were done it would speed up needed trade deals that his industry relies on.

Moeller says without TPA, other countries know that Congress can delay or stop trade deals, and that makes them hesitant or reluctant to sign on to the agreements.

Moeller is hoping TPA negotiators will be able to convince Japan to come to the table on tariff and gate price elimination so the deal can move forward. He adds that even if fast track can get approved by early next year that would be helpful.
